We Saved Our Sea, for now

SOS are in a cautiously optimistic mood following the news that Cardigan Bay is unlikely to see any exploration for oil and gas in the near future. Today (Thursday 20th December) the newly formed Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform released a draft environmental report that said not enough was known about the dolphins in the bay to grant licences. It states 'On account of uncertainties about the size, distribution and location of the resident population of bottlenose dolphins within the Cardigan Bay Natura 2000 site, this assessment does not presently support the granting of consent...This conclusion may be revisited once new data becomes available.'

• The Department of Trade and Industry is encouraging exploration for oil in Cardigan Bay very close to the Ceredigion shoreline.

• Dolphins, other wildlife and rare habitats are threatened.

• Tourists want to see dolphins not oil rigs!

• Do you care about marine wildlife?

• Are you involved in the tourist industry around Cardigan Bay?

---WHAT YOU CAN DO ---

• Take part in the Save our Sea campaign to stop the planned exploration for oil. Contact Leila Kiersch (leila@savecardiganbay.org.uk Tel: 01974 261340).

• Write to the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) asking them why they haven't taken a stronger stand against the oil exploration in order to protect the threatened wildlife: CCW Maes y Ffynnon, FFordd, Penrhosgarnedd, Bangor, Gwynedd, LL57 2DN.

• Write to Lord Truscott at the Department of Trade and Industry tell him that local people think the wildlife and tourism of Cardigan Bay is far too important to be threatened by exploration for what small amount of oil might be here: Lord Truscott, Department of Trade & Industry, 1 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0ET.

• Mae Adran Masnach a Diwydiant y llywodraeth yn calonogi chwilio am olew yn Bae Ceredigion yn agos iawn ar yr arfordir.

• Mae dolffiniad a bywyd gwyllt o dan fygythiad.

• Mae twristiaid eisiau gweld dolffiniad nid llwyfanau olew.

• A ydych yn pryderi am fywyd gwyllt ?

• Ydych chi'n ymwneud â diwydiant twristiaid ger Bae Ceredigion?

---BETH ALLWCH CHI WNEUD ---

• Ymuno a ni yn yr ymgyrch i Achub Ein Môr i stopio chwilio am olew.
Cysylltiwch gyda Leila Kiersch (leila@savecardiganbay.org.uk

• Ysgrifennwch at y Cyngor Gwledig Cymru (C.C.W.) i ofyn pam nad ydynt wedi gwrthwynebu yn grymus y chwilio am olew er mwyn achub y bywyd gwyllt sydd o dan fygythiad.
( CCW Maes y Ffynnon, FFordd, Penrhosgarnedd, Bangor,Gwynedd, LL57 2DN )
• Anfon llythyr at Lord Truscott ( Adran Masnach a Diwydiant) i'w hysbysu fod pobl yr ardal yn meddwl fod bywyd gwyllt a thwristraeth yn llawer rhy bwysig i gael ei fygythio drwy chwilio am ychydig o olew sydd yma.
